Prodigal

Do you ever have days where you're just crabby for no good reason?

That's me today.

I started a bullet point list of all the things that are making me cranky (you know, in attempt to justify it)...turns out, the list just ended up annoying me so I deleted it :)

Turns out, there really is no reason...no really good one anyway. Dang it. It's so much nicer when I can blame my heart condition on some outside circumstance...like the ungodly weather right now...

Truth is...my heart has wandered from it's true source of joy, wisdom, hope...truth...which only comes from one person....my Jesus.

I know this doesn't make sense to some...but when I met him 16 years ago, He gave me a new life.

He replaced anger with joy, and rationality with faith, and selfishness with love. But my heart...it's forever wandering...trying to run back to what it was...because that's easier.

Sometimes I let it. And then become miserable. And then, like a child, I realize where I'm at...and turn back for home.

The prodigal in the story.

But Jesus...always the Father in the story...always.

*The story can be found in Luke chapter 15 verses 11-32*

  1. Hate when that happens.

Well,I gave you an award/tag over at my site. The subject may help you work through your issues right now. Or not. Just humor me.

Love you, girl! Isn't it great how God just shuts us up sometimes, even when we just want to complain? Happens to me all the time.

  2. Girl - You are preaching to the choir today!
I woke up this morning really wanting to pin my bad attitude on my husband....God wasn't allowing it.
I'm still fighting, though I think.
    I gotta let go!

Just wanted you to know that I get it!

  5. My heart and mind are working on the whole "just because I feel it, doesn't make it true" thing today, and pretty much the past 10 days.
    Thank you for persevering!
I had a pretty tight schedule today....snow day....schedule, what schedule!

  6. I love that parable. How the father is standing out looking for the son to come home. I'm so glad God does that for us. He's always out looking and waiting for me when I stray. Thanks for the reminder.

  9. Maybe we're all wanderers by nature, but reading this made me feel a bit better about it. Because sometimes I forget that other people wander too and I compare and feel like a big fat loser. Thank you for your honesty. You have a beautiful heart, even when it wanders off here and there.

  10. Girl, we all have days like that. Sometimes we just wake up crabby.

I live with a teenager that can turn crabby on and off like a light switch, those are always fun days.

Hope things go better! I love reading your blog.

  14. Right now, I am just so happy that we can come back, like the prodigal. It makes me hurt for people who don't have that answer. Yowch! Let alone, oh I don't know, ETERNAL LIFE.

  15. Oh, I'm with you friend...my heart can definitely wander. Often times there is a little struggle going on between where my thoughts take me and where my heart wants to go.

  16. My attitude hasn't been great recently either...I'm thinking my heart has wandered, too. Glad to know I'm not the only, and glad that the Father is always there.
