Let's Catch Up...

Let's just sorta ignore the fact that I took a 3 1/2 month break from blogging, sound good?  I thought so.

Lot's has happened, and much has stayed the same.  Life is tricky like that. (but my love of run-on sentences is still strong. Sorry not sorry.)

Let's bullet for old times sake:

  • Lucy turned 4 in April.  Noah turned 13 in May. Jake turned 9 last week. Eli is still 11, but now has glasses.

  • School is out and we are in full swing of Summer.  Which is actually as busy as the school year, but a different kind of busy so we are sucking-out every ounce of fun and warmth that it has to offer.  I did stay in bed til 8 this morning...so it's not that busy.
  • I am in week 1 of a 12 week training plan for my second half-marathon.  Last year I did a 20 week training plan.  Pffff.  Apparently I think 12 weeks is going to cut it this time.  We shall see.  I've likely deceived myself.
  • I got my hair cut super short.  Pixie time.  So in the hair department, much has changed since last June.  It's super easy and super fun to have something different. And super easy.  (Super is such a great word, I love to over-use it.)  I am amazed at how many ladies tell me they would "love to do it, but just couldn't."  Umm:  Yes you can.  It's simple really.  1. Scroll through Pinterest for hours 2. Show your stylist the pic 3. Done.  Be brave people, you can do it.  (But don't tell your husband I said so...)
  •  I have leaned so much in the past 6 months about ministry and living life as a follower of Jesus.  So much.  And in the midst of it, it didn't seem appropriate to share...but now, I think it is.  It has required some bravery that I wasn't quite sure I was capable of.  And I'm not.  But Christ in me, is completely capable.  Different songs have become anthems for me.  Here's a link to one of them.
  • Julie graduated college in May.  And part of her family came from Norway to visit and stay with us and they were so very lovely. And then she flew back to Norway.  *sob* And I miss her.  But she will be back.  (this is not necessarily confirmed, but nothing is impossible soooo it' s how I cope.  It's working.)
  • Ok, so that's that.

I sat down at the computer yesterday and opened up a Word doc to write down some specific thoughts on something.  And the writing...it felt gooood.  Writing and running = good cheap therapy.

I haven't met anyone yet who couldn't use some of that. ;)

So, my internet friends, what have you been up to?  *tapping the mic*  Beuller?  Beuller?

Not Fun Stuff

Jake has the flu.  As in the doctor swabbed his nose and it's officially influenza b.  Bleh.  My heart hurts just looking at him...and I can't help thinking about the parents who have to watch their children suffer for much longer than the life of a flu virus.  Perspective.

Lucy and I, because we spent the most time around him, are on tamiflu in hopes of avoiding it.  We'll see if that works...

I was supposed to get my hair cut this morning.  I had actual tears when I called the salon to try to reschedule.  That's the bad thing about having such a great stylist...I'm on the cancellation list, but the soonest I could schedule an actual appointment is March 29th.

This is what my hair will look like by March 29th:

Thank you Google Images for this lovely photo.

I'm pretty sure I won't be wearing spandex pants by then though.

Pretty sure.

Hair

A hair-cut post is loooong overdue.  In my early days of blogging (the first two years)  all of internet land got a haircut pic every 6 weeks.  And then a year and a half ago I decided to grow it out so I could donate to locks of love.  Which means I only get a trim every 12 weeks or so and it always looks the same.  Very boring.  But I can put up with the boring since it's for a good cause.

I do, on occasion, complain about it though.  Mostly because I feel more like me, with short hair.  But another couple of inches and I will have enough to donate.  Yay!

This picture is right after I had gotten it cut.  My stylist and I like to "fight" over bangs or no bangs.  I always want bangs.  Then she tries to talk me out of it, and I pretend to say "ok" and then she pulls the bobby pin out of my bangs (that I have swept to the side) and she sees that I ALREADY TRIED to cut them myself....and then she just shakes her head and fixes them for me.

I can't help it. I love bangs.

My super lovely stylist, also named Sarah (because half the people in my life have the same name as me) always flat irons it super straight.  She's all patient like that.  I have no arm muscles, so I never do that.  Too much work. She also put some red lipstick on me.  Which is funny, because I'm way too boring for red lipstick.

And this pic....

Is me.  Chapstick and hair that is semi under-control.  Ignore the ironing board in the background.

Hair Cute

Every time I write the word "hair cut"  I first write "hair cute" by accident.  Seriously, every time.

Because in my brain, hair cut = cute.  I love getting hair cuts.  I've been growing mine out for awhile now.  Just for something different.  I'm also planning on donating to Locks of Love, so it's gonna have to get longer before I can chop it off.  Oh what fun that day will be!  But that is not the point of this post...

Back to the point.  I had been trying to grow Lucy's bangs out.  But no matter what I did, she wouldn't not leave the "pretties" in her hair.   So she ended up looking like this:

I surrendered this battle to bangs.

Lucy now goes to her own salon (because it's cheaper than mama's ;) and her own stylist...which is a girl.  Named Randall.

She's quite pleased with her new look. ;)

The go to an Aveda salon, so most of the stuff I use comes from there because I looooove the smell of it.  But, on the day that I took Lucy in for her hair cut, I was having a particularly bad hair day.

I had straightened it, but it wasn't really straight.  So the girl at the salon hooked me up with this stuff:

I LOVE IT.

It turns my hair from this (dried naturally)

To this:

Miraculous.

Also, enjoy the view behind me.  Kids, toys, cartoons & laundry on the floor.  That's us.

The End.

For the Love of Ponytails...

I have rekindled my fondness for the ponytail.
High Pony...

For the past several years I opted for the bob.  I love the bob.  I miss the bob.  But sometimes, you just have to do something different because otherwise people get bored looking at you.

Should I say that?  Maybe not.  Oh well.  It's true.  If you've had the same hair cut for more than a few years...people are tired of it.  Try something new.  Be fun.

So, in an effort to not bore everyone, including myself, I decided to grow it out.  And really, is there anything more fun than growing it out and then cutting it short?  I think not.  Super fun.

I did have an original point at the beginning of this post...oh yeah...ponytails.

I'm finding that they are WAY cooler in the summertime than my beloved bob. Cooler as in temperature, in case I was confusing you.

And ponytails are fun...except when they're not.  But mostly fun...especially on this one:

Hair

I started blogging three years ago in an attempt to document the ordinariness of our life.  All bloggers know that sometimes, the blog takes on a life of it's own...always changing.  Which is good.  It's just like life.  But sometimes, we need to get back to our roots...and if you're me, that means posts about your hair cuts.

I'm attempting to grow it out.  Not because I like it long, but because I feel the need for something different.  I started looking back over the past few years of pictures and noticed that although my bobbed hair had slight changes regularly, the bob had still been the main-stay.  Call me crazy, but I like to be able to look back at pictures and remember which year it was, just by my haircut.  It makes looking back rather entertaining.

It also means I'm pretty dang good at laughing at myself.

Anyways, here's the latest hair.  We'll refer to it as the "growing-it-out-but-still-cutting-bangs-in-order-to-make-it-less-boring" stage.

It will likely last awhile.  And then it will be long.  And then I will cut it.  We call that The Circle of Life.

Like Mother Like Daughter

It's a little humid here...

Looks like baby girl has inherited her mama's hair.

It Looks Like This:

I haven't much time...I'm watching Nacho Libre while Christmas baking.

It's like the movie that goes with every occasion.

Oh, there's some kiddos running around as well.

My kitchen looks like this:
My (21 week) belly (in my MOST favoritist tshirt that I just got on clearance for CHEAP) looks like this:

And my new hair cut like this:

And outside, well it looks like this:

Now if I could stop eating all the treats I'm making, there might actually be some to give away.

Merry Monday Everyone!

Pictures...

Just for the heck of it, I took some pictures yesterday and today. Something I haven't done in quite awhile...

I thought I'd document my increasing belly/decreasing lap. At 15 1/2 weeks the lap still wins.

And the baby bump...

And the purple shoes that I've rekindled that loving feeling for recently...

And a new hair cut that was loooong over due thanks to nausea and barfing...

It's good to feel somewhat normal again. Well, maybe normal is a bad choice of word...it's good to feel like me again.

I'd Like it Back

Random info: This is my 402nd post. Oh. My. Word. Who knew I could ramble on and on day after day for this long. Don't answer that.

So. It's Friday. YAY!

Yesterday I got my hair cut. Another YAY! I'm trying to grow out the front a few inches so that I can pull it back into a pony tail, just and itsy bitsy little one, because right now when I run....DRIVING ME CRAZY.

So, I got my hair cut to grow it out. Only women understand that concept. I'll leave it at that.

Here's some pictures:

Don't tell me how cute it is. Just tell me about a magic pill I can take to make it grow faster.

In other news: There's this weird thing going on with my brain. It's delayed or something. I have lost track of how many times I've thought to myself "WHY did I not say such and such to so and so?!?"

It's like I leave a particular situation or conversation and realize I didn't say anything that I SHOULD have said. Ten minutes later (when it's too late) I think, oh yeah, it's her birthday or oh yeah, they had surgery etc etc etc!

It's weird. And it makes me seem insensitive...and it makes me feel insensitive. And I'd like it to stop. I'd like my brain to start working correctly again. Any time now.

I need a shirt that says: I'm not trying to be insensitive, I'm just really that forgetful and spacey. And don't worry because 10 minutes from now I'll realize what I should have said to you and I'll feel bad about it and I'll replay the conversation in my head and this time I'll say the right thing. Unfortunately, you will not be there for this conversation. My apologies.

Maybe that's a little long for a t-shirt...

I guess the good point of losing my brain is that so far, I'm not saying things I shouldn't. Because I can always go back to the person and add something in, but I can't take back something that's already been spewed out.

Maybe my brain will return this weekend. That would be nice. :)

Happy Friday Friends!

Just Thinking...

I spent most of yesterday being completely entertained by your comments.

Hair is just so much fun...I can't explain it.

I have a couple shots of the side and back...because I had requests...and I aim to please. The side shot:

I hadn't taken a back-shot the other night, so I did it today...which means I took the back this morning, so it's not as straight as when my stylist does it...because she's a professional, and I'm lazy.

OK, on to other stuff.

  • I have Ladies Bible Study tonight and I can't even begin to explain all that God is doing within me right now. Most of it I'm just pondering in my heart for the time being. I gotta let it settle and sink in, good and deep, and then I'll fill you in :)
  • Big day for America today. My guy did not win in November. Hate when that happens. I did refrain from putting on sack cloth and mourning today though ;) And I will watch the speech...kinda like one who sits and watches a train wreck because they just can't peel their eyes away. I disagree with President Obama on some major things, but as the president, I will treat him with honor and respect because of the office he holds. I will refrain from getting a bumper sticker that says "Don't blame me, I didn't vote for him" because those thoroughly annoyed me during Bush's terms as president ;) It's easy to give honor and respect to someone who agrees with me, it's much more difficult to give when that person so fundamentally disagrees with me, but it does not change the fact that both people deserve the same respect. I can disagree without badmouthing...which is a fundamental truth I want my children to see and learn.
  • If anyone is interested in the why of my disagreement with President Obama, Linda at 2nd Cup of Coffee has an excellent post that sums it up perfectly...because, well, she's a writer...
  • I want to commit to praying for the new First Family, because I can't imagine the stress that comes from his position. And now that I've started watching 24, I'm convinced there are bad guys that are smarter than the government lurking around every corner :) For real. I have no idea how they keep the president and his family safe from crazy people, but I pray that each on is guarded and protected today by someone much more powerful than secret service.
  • And is it just me, or does anyone feel like they're gonna have a heart attack after every episode of 24?!? My heart races the entire time...I think it may be a better workout than running on my treadmill. I need to get caught up on all the seasons...but I don't think I'll be doing marathon watching of this particular show. Better stick to one episode at a time.

Happy Inauguration Day everyone!

Rock Star Hair

I got my hair cut. Again. I can't help myself. I can't explain it, but my hair needs to be different, even if it's just a little bit. I like to try new things. It makes life fun. This hair cut makes me feel like a rock star...literally.

Funny thing though...in real life, people have opinions. And you know what...they like to share them...even when ya haven't asked for them ;) Anyone have this happen?!? It's an interesting phenomenon.

Not everyone appreciates my constant tweaks with my hair. Apparently, when you happen across a style they like, they expect you to keep it that way...indefinitely. For me, that is never. gonna. happen. At least not likely.

You see, I'm a firm believer you can like your hairstyle and still change to another one. Cutting edge, I know.

I think there should be some hair rules that we all live by. I might get them printed on a t-shirt that I will then wear for several days after a haircut...just to prove my point.

Here's my new rules:

1) If I ask for your opinion, then let me have it. If not...a simple smile will do.

2) A girl can do with her own hair as she pleases. If the same hair cut for 10 years is what you like, so be it. If you like to change it up, go right ahead.

3) I feel like a rock star...which doesn't really fit, but I think I pretty much wrapped up the rules in #1&#2.

Any rules you wanna add?

It's the Spice of Life.

Let me start off by telling you how blown away I am with the quality of some your blogs. Generally, I try not to dwell on your fabulousness because it seems to cause me to sit frozen at the computer unable to come up with a post.

There are all kinds of blogs. ALL kinds. Mine falls into the easiest category. It's called "here's what I did today." It works for me...because well, I'm a little lazy, and this kind requires the least amount of effort...I think.

Some are filled with deep spiritual insight and Bible study, some are crafty, some have recipes, some are helpful etc. with great tips about pretty much anything you can think of.

My Google reader is filled with all kinds of these different blogs. I am convinced that variety is the spice of life. We are meant to be different...and to share it.
One of my new favorites is called Small Notebook it is full of all sorts of goodness! And if you click on her links there's a bunch of other great sites that she's got all labeled and organized for you.
And, in true parsonage life fashion...something totally unrelated to what I was talking about...

Here is my new haircut. Because well, it's different than it was...and I like change. If only my hair grew at a really rapid rate, then I could try all sorts of stuff...maybe in heaven that will happen!!! You never know :)

Any new favorite blogs I should know about?!? C'mon, give it up. OR are there any kinds of blogs in particular that you enjoy reading?

Nosy aren't I.

I Think I Have a Problem...

Last fall I got hooked on Facebook, thanks to my friend Beth.
And by hooked...I mean completely and utterly sucked in.

Yesterday I spent some time catching up with Facebook. I have neglected it since I started blogging, and the fact that Facebook went and changed the format (which has taken me a long time to get used to) didn't help matters.

But Facebook... I. am. back.

Anyways, yesterday as I was looking through my previous profile pictures and stuff I became totally amused at my hair throughout this past year....and then I thought to myself, "Self, wouldn't it be fun if you could see everyone's hair throughout the past year?!? Because it changes more than ya think." Then my self replied back with something to the effect that no one's gonna wanna do that, except me...

So here's mine. We'll start with a really old one first...Christmas 2006...
Good-bye long hair... we were really never meant to be...

October 2007...me and my sister Lindsey.

November...Thanksgiving...we're weirdos.

December

January

February

March

April...straight

and curly...

May was the tornado clean-up...we don't even want to mention what the hair looked like...I did sport that lovely farmers tan all summer long though. Nice.

June and July meant humidity...

August

September & October...

Never in my life have I had so many pictures of myself...I blame facebook, and the need to keep changing my profile pic because I get sick of looking at the same old one.

So...if you haven't tried facebook, you should. It's way, way easy to find old/current friends...and an excellent way to keep record of your hairstyles for a year, because I mean, who doesn't want to do that?!?

And, if you post hair pictures...and I mean any kind, be sure to let me know...because I'm THAT easily amused. ;)

I Can't Help Myself...

It's been six months since I wrote this post. (when all but 5 of you were not reading)

Guess what I did on Saturday? C'mon guess.

Yep...I cut bangs...again. *sheepish grin*

But, GOOD NEWS! I like them this time. For now anyways.

I decided I needed to have a heavier fringe (that's bang term I learned in the countless magazines I flipped through)...

I also colored it...the exact same color it already is, but with dimension. And dimension is code for: no one else will even be able to tell a difference...not even me, even though I will try to convince myself I can.

Apparently there's something in the air here, because I also feel the need to re-paint and re-arrange everything in my house.

Weird.

How 'bout you...what's changing out their bloggy friends?

It Was 1997...

Certain things get better with age.

My hair is one of them.

I give you: Our Engagement Picture (i.e. my hair with a perm) 1997

10 years later...

No more perms for me...no more hair for Ben...and boy, do I like it better that way *wink*

You're welcome for that my bloggy friends....you. are. welcome :)
