I Need Your Help...

Here's the deal. Julie is allergic to egg whites. I'm wondering if there's anybody else out there who is also allergic and has some tips for me.

Like...
  • Is there a brand of egg-less ice cream that you can buy?
  • Or any other egg-less stuff that you use instead of eggs?
  • Can I buy "fake" eggs? Are egg beaters fake eggs?
See, I've just proved to you I have no clue. Good thing I'm a citizen of blogland where nice people help me out with my deep, thought provoking questions.

Let's have it, I need your input. If you have no input, how 'bout sharing with me stuff your allergic too...because that seems like good times, no?

  1. In baking, you can use 1tbsp of soy flour and 1tbsp on water in place of an egg...it all bakes up the same. And its way cheap to boot!!

  2. OOH, interesting, can't wait to see the answers you get. Do you have an ice cream maker? I'm going to go check my recipes and see if they have any for egg-less.

  6. Well, I hate eggs, but I do eat them when they're in things. There are tons of Vegan cookbooks that explain how to cook without them. Good Luck!

  8. You can buy egg substitutes BUT you have to read the label to make sure they don't actually contain reconstituted dried eggs. Also, I have this awesome oatmeal chocolate chip cookie recipe that uses baking soda and boiling water in place of the egg - you'd never know they were missing! Some of the substitutions I have found online don't work as well, so I was pleasantly surprised when these turned out as well as they did. If you want it, just e-mail me!

  9. egg beaters is "egg whites" just not the yolks. I get sick from egg yolks so I eat egg beaters. Wouldn't be good to use egg beaters if she is allergic to the "whites". :)

  10. Good luck with that one... It won't be easy- But less complicated than a wheat allergy or something like that...

My girls and I are allergic to bandaids. Not the latex...but the adhesive.

When I gave birth and they taped down my epidural there was a perfect rash where the tape had been. It was sore for weeks.

  12. Funny, I was eating a supper of eggs when I read this.
My Fastco Mint chip icecream had no eggs. I think only the homemade or expensive stuff does..... (that is purely speculation!)

  13. Egg beaters are egg whites. Make sure you check labels very carefully. Many people do not know this.

  14. I have a friend (bohomeme@blogspot.com) who's hubby is allergic to eggs and i believe she uses flax seed as an egg substitute and has had great luck with it!

also my sis-in-law (wutheringiris.blogspot.com) just bought a vegan cupcake cookbook and says they are the best cupcakes she has EVER tasted! good luck!

  15. No one in my family has egg allergies, but I used to babysit s little girl that did. One thing that I used to do when baking cake is substitute one can of Pop (aka soda) for the other ingrediants. Because most box cake mixes call for oil or water, and eggs. If you simply put one can of pop (Pepsi, Coke, Sprite, 7up) in with the contents of the cake mix it works great. The cake will not only have less fat, but it makes a very moist cake!

  16. My son used to be allergic to eggs. I used the oil and water recipe for egg replacement in pancakes. Works okay for cookies, but they are a little "brittle". It was a total disaster in brownie mix (tons to oil). Hope this helps. Ice cream was one of the easiest things to buy egg-free. But no bakery, pretty much. We did Oreos and stuff like that.
