My Life...

Do you ever have one of those moments where you feel like you're looking at your life as an outsider...like you're looking in, watching it?

I do. All the time.

And I always think..."Oh. My. Word."

One of those moments occurred just yesterday.

The inside of my mini-van was disgustingly dirty...and I am not exaggerating. I will spare you the details. So I drove to the car wash, went through the automatic section washed the van, scraped vacuumed it out, and then proceeded to wipe the interior down with...baby wipes. BABY WIPES. And ya know what...it worked quite well, I highly recommend it.

And midway through, I thought to myself..."If they could see me now..."

Oh, but it gets better.

After that ordeal I decided to pull the van into the wash bays where people, who are not as lazy as myself, actually wash their own vehicles...by hand.

I decided that the only thing that would get the rubber mats that line the floor of my van, clean, would be the power-washer that sprays out soapy water at roughly 150 mph.

So I hung the mats along the hooks on the wall, inserted my quarters and then pulled the trigger of the power-washer wand. Turns out, you should make sure you are an adequate distance from the floor mat BEFORE pulling the trigger, otherwise it will ricochet off and spray you, until you are totally soaked and your hair (which you took the time to straighten today) will turn curly in a matter of 1.5 seconds.

Not that I know this from experience. But if such a moment ever happened to me...I would think (again) "If they could see me now..."

Happy Friday!!

  7. call me when you are spraying your wheel wells and not paying attention and your finger slips right at the top of the sprayer and you rip all of the skin off of it, OR even better when you get the brilliant idea to use the sprayer to clean your flip flops (works really well just take your foot OUT first) and rip skin off the top and side of your foot and between your toes.... yeah car wash stories i could go on and on.....like when my husb sucked my mother in law's garage door opener up in the vacuum on a Sunday and did not tell her and she drove back home to Grinnell and could not get in her house and had to break in the window because she did not carry keys..only the garage door opener....which was safely locked in the belly of the vacuum....

  8. I'm shocked to find out I'm the one living this life all the time! I still feel like a little girl so much of the time that it seems impossible to me that I have 2 little girls! I asked my grandmother about this once. She told me she feels like a little girl often...in her 80's! If they could see us now...

  12. Whenever I have those moments, I remind myself that this would be a BRILLIANT sitcom moment. And then I feel like a movie star who's just pretending to be a dork.

    Hey! Works for me!

  15. You could never live in LA. You would just have to wear your hair curly down here.

I also got soaked today. This little thing called "Ike" is impacting us too, quite a bit. I went into the grocery store and came out to torrential downpour with heavy winds and no umbrella. I was soaked ... really soaked.

  18. our minivans must be twins. and since you've got the cleaning them out program down...want to perfect your skills on mine?

we have a pack of babywipes in nearly every room of the house, plus the diaper bag, and in both the front and back of the van. i don't know what i'd do w/o them.
