Where Has My Coolness Gone?

How can it be happening already.

Noah, my first grader, is acting like an adolescent.

*gasp*

We were at a restaurant eating, and Eli stood up and did something silly (typical) and Noah said to him, "Eli, people know you're my brother and when you do that, it embarrasses me, STOP."

Ben and I gave each other the "are you kidding me?!?" look.

I did what any loving and totally sympathetic mother would do, I told him "get used to it." and then proceeded to tell him that "someday even mom and dad will embarrass you...on occasion."

And do you know what my child, my 9 lbs 13 oz first born said to me?!?

"you already do sometimes." and then he giggled.

Sucker punched...right in my jiggly mommy belly...by my seven year old.

I proceeded to explain to him exactly how cool his mom and dad were...and he stared at me and then returned the favor of the "are you kidding me?!?" look.

Surely I should be able to keep my cool factor till at least Junior High...but first grade...that hurts :)

Friday night we went to our first home football game and I wanted a picture of them all decked out in there school spirit attire...check out Noah's expression...

It says it all :)

If anyone figures out where my coolness has gone, please let me know...I'd like it back *wink*

  1. You're not alone!!! My daughter,
(8yrs old) started this in 1st grade!! She was mortified when I followed her into class on her first day of 1st grade to snap a picture of her sitting at her desk!! You'll just have to do what I do and enter "coolness" denial!! LOL

  2. Good news! Your coolness factor does come back!!!.....just not till about 16-17 years old and for sure when they get to college! ya, I know that seems like a life time away, but trust me....it comes FAST!

  3. If our two 1st grade Noah's ever met, we would have to take cover from the universal connection.

I believe our coolness doesn't return again until they have their first baby and need help.

So far I am still cool enough to come be the lunch mom on Fridays. I wonder how long that will last. I imagine I will cry the first time he doesn't want to be seen with me.

  5. I think my coolness factor left much earlier...like somewhere in the middle of 2:00 a.m. feedings & spit-up in my hair. Sometimes my girl (almost 10) thinks we're pretty cool (mostly her daddy). I figure it will come back when she leaves for college. Glad to see another commenter affirmed that notion.

  6. The little one will think you're cool the longest. Maybe.

You'll get your coolness back about the time you get hot flashes!

  7. My mom used to do the craziest, funniest, "just being mom" things and my sister and I would lower our heads or pretend we didn't know her several times... and I'm pretty sure there are still moments ... but the good news... we look back on it and laugh and smile and LOVE her even more today(because we're doing some of those same things now) :)

Your coolness is there, just not recognized all the time :)

  9. "Get use to it" I LOVE IT!

I remember putting my arm around my son while walking into school one day, he gave me a shrug to tell me to not do that in front of his classmates. I just giggled and removed my arm.

Another time I tried to show affection, he let me know that he had plenty of hugs and kisses for me at home, but not in front of his classmates.

I love the comments that come from our children. I have never taken them too seriously. They are just Tooo funny!

    Have a great day!

  11. Yes, it does happen. The "coolness" obviously fades with age. Now, it's just fun to embarrass them on purpose. And, I too, am always trying to convince my kids that we are way cooler than most parents. They still don't believe me.

  12. Uh oh. It appears that DC Talk on the treadmill has scarred him. You're going to need to pull out the big guns if you want to be placed back on his "cool" list.

    Time for a tattoo. :)

  13. I guess that's what happens when you have to compete with cool school friends!

  14. Your boys are so adorable!!

Well, at least if Noah is entering the "adolescent" phase, you can still take comfort in that dazzlling smile from the little one! :)

  16. Don't you worry...I know it comes back when they learn to appreciate all that their loving parents do for them.

  17. Oh wow, didn't know it started this early. His expression is hilarious. Actually all 3 of their faces cracked me up.

  18. Oh, you'll get it back... someday. Along with it there will come a special day when he has little ones of his own and that day is call PAYBACK DAY!

That's when you lovingly laugh while he goes through it for himself and watch as he reaps all those little seeds of orneriness through your grandchildren ;)

  19. I got a late start on embarrassing my kids. They didn't really mind all that much until they started school last year..

  20. I am in denial, about the time the cool left at our house, the mommys super smart left too. and then they just start googling their questions..

  21. My kids call it "baddness". and from the sound of I don't really want it! LOL

  22. Oh. he really does still think you're cool. He just can't admit it, because that would be uncool. At least that's what I tell myself!

  23. My baby is still little, but I'm pretty sure I'm a big dork now, too.

I just had a very serious conversation with my husband about purchasing a ... mini van.

Not cool. In fact, decidedly Un-Cool.

  24. The coolness factor comes and goes. So you might want to get used to being without it as you will never know when you will lose it.

My 14 year old actually wants me to go with her on a school field trip - I must be cool this week for my freshman to want me to accompany her. Although I was completely uncool last week when she wanted to go to homecoming with a boy - NOT - did I mention that she is 14!!!

    Hugs!

  26. ahh the "too big for my britches" complex! i've seen it too. and my favorite line when the oldest thinks he can correct the youngest? *you are not the THIRD parent!* hmph, now who has the attitude?! ;o)

  27. so similar to the expression my first born wears when he has to have a picture made with his brothers!

my oldest will not hold my hand anymore when i walk him into school and rarely even makes eye contact when it public.

this post hits too close to home!

  28. Too funny! Well, you're the coolest blogger I know...oughta count right? Love the picture...especially Eli's excited expression.

  29. I'm pretty sure our coolness evaporates the first time our oldest child rolls their eyes. It's like Cinderella's magical carriage. It just vanishes.

  30. I can only promise you it gets worse as they get older. My 9 yr old has a fit if I do anything remotely funny (at least I think it's funny) in her presence.

The teenager? HAHAHA. It's so much fun to embarrass her!!
