Try Not to be Intimidated...

Today is show off your tree day. Which makes me smile. When you see my tree...you will know why.

Our regular tree happened to be stored in our basement when tiny-town flooded...goodbye fancy flocked tree with pine cones.

Don't cry for me. I wasn't really a flocked tree kinda girl anyways.

I decided this year we would go to the tree farm and cut it down and haul it home, just like we did when I was growing up.

Then reality hit and I remembered I have a certain destructive three year old that I can barely keep up with. The kids and dog are lucky to be watered, I don't know if I can handle a high maintenance tree.

So instead...we went wild this year.

I give you our white tree.

Where are all your ornaments you ask?!? Two explanations.

  1. There's a huge box of ornaments in the attic...I may have mentioned before that I'm not all that sentimental when it comes to that kind of stuff...which helps because...

  2. they would just get ruined and broken around here. Jake has already pulled the tree over once when he cast is John Deere magnetic fishing pole into the tree and then "reeled" it in. Lucky for him his mama just had to set it back up. Done. I didn't even re-fluff it.

We're fancy around here...what can I say. ;)

If you'd like to link up and show off your tree head on over to Sara at Butterville! Unless, of course, I've totally intimidated you with my fancy tree *wink wink*

Happy Tuesday! (We have a snow day by the way, which is fun, because it's the first one. Don't talk to me about snow days come February, I will likely break into tears.)

  1. where did you ever find a white tree? I love it! And I'm not just sayin' that either! When we were little my grandmother had a white tree and one of those metal type ones where she had a colorful spotlight on it that changed colors. It was so pretty!

That is so funny about your son "reeling" in the christmas tree~

Snow day! yay! Did y'all get a lot? must show pictures

  2. I love your tree! IT's unique. Matches the outdoors...brings a little white christmas inside without all the wet! Pretty chains? Are those chains? Odie isn't attached to the tree is he?
Snow day huh? WOW y'all must have got HIT! Or the plows don't have their act together. Thanks for sharing I think your tree rocks!
    My verif. word: noboa!
THAT'S what your tree needs some fancy feathers!

  3. love it! we fixed that problem by building a heavy red box that the tree sat on and "bolted" the tree stand to the box. When Xmas was over the box turned over and in went the decorations!!!!

  6. Lol! We have a white tree, too, but only a 4 foot one. I refuse to decorate a big Christmas tree until we have kids (I was an only child and the one in charge of putting the big 6.5-ft tree up as a child -- it was an ordeal each year, lol!).

  7. Great tree Sarah! It's been quite a year for you ahsn't it? Hearing about your tree being ruined in the flood reminded me...

Loved the story of your tree being reeled in. :) That is so our reality every day isn't it? :) I bought all shaterproof ornaments this year. :)

  10. Love Love Love the retro look. You kinda sound like me about the tree this year. I was out shopping one night last week and came home...the tree was up and fully decorated by my kids and hubby. It's kinda weird not getting so anal about the tree this year...but I haven't "fixed" a single thing on it!

  16. I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU HAVE A WHITE TREE! I'm so fully of envy. I've wanted a white tree for years. FringeMan and I argue about it all the time. I think your tree looks totally awesome! It looks so good I reverted to 80's style adjectives.

  20. Well, hey there Sarah!

I really like your white tree, and as a Mama of 3 boys, I totally understand where you are coming from with your ornament thing.

I'm going to go check you out on Twitter... I kinda live there... :)

  22. Hey, I was at a house today that had a white tree. It must be the "in" thing for families with little guys.
How funny that your Jake reeled in the tree. Last year, our tree just toppled, no fishing line involved. Go figure. :)

  23. That's it! I'm way too intimidated. You can just forget about me posting a picture of my tree, sister.

  24. Your tree is gorgeous! Love that you're attempting to keep it kid-friendly. God bless you with three boys underfoot. I don't know how my mom did it with three boys and two girls! Your family seems adorable. I love that I found your blog and feel as if you're a kindred spirit (must have to do with being a "pastor's wife" :) ~Jenny

  25. I LOVE white trees. Is it because there's a 70's retro vibe? Or is it just plain pretty?

Good stuff. I'm lame and haven't taken the time to get in on this, even though Sara is my local bloggy friend. Ugh, the blog guilt.

  26. I love it! And that boy of yours totally cracks me up...loved reading the fishing part:)

  27. hehehehe Even though it's been a few years (okay, a couple decades) I still remember when my kiddos were young. My son especially needed close supervision around the tree. Then a friend suggested I put the TREE into the playpen instead of the son. We could all see the tree but he couldn't reach the ornaments or crawl up under the tree to try and to figure out "how it worked". Back then he had to figure out how everything worked, even if it didn't actually do anything :-)

  28. I love the white tree! Did you ever hear about those trees that had a big light that shined on them and changed them colors? Very cool.

  29. I love your tree and I so hear you about destructive little boys. Mine is 4 1/2 this year and for the first time there are ornaments on the tree that haven't been seen for the last two years.
I laughed so hard and had to read to my husband about your son reeling in the tree! So funny!
