Sometimes I Pretend I Can Rap...

I mentioned my beautiful green iPod the other day.  I have to tell you, I had NO IDEA what I was missing out on all these years.  I imagine it's the same way I'll feel when I finally get one of those fancy-shmancy mini-vans where you push a button to open the door.

Anyhow, the itunes store and I have become best friends.  You would die, DIE  if you knew how much time I have wasted spent just looking up songs to hear the 5 seconds of free listening.  I am that easily amused.  I especially like punching in a year (1989-1996) in particular because it brings up the top 100 songs or so...and in a second it takes me back in time.

And it turns out....I still very much heart all those songs.
And at .99 a song, I can't help myself.  It's like creating my own schizophrenic CD.  It's awesome.

It's also made it crystal clear that my music tastes are all over the place.   I would share them with you...but seriously, I think it's a little more than you can handle.  I'm just sayin'.

It has left me pondering one thing...Am I the only pastor's wife who bought Vanilla Ice's, Ice Ice Baby for my ipod?  Am I?  Tell me there's another out there who can "rap" the whole song.

Need a refresher?  Click here.

I'm off to practice my dance moves.

Word to your mother. (which I googled, because I in fact have no idea what that saying means, turns out it was coined by Vanilla Ice during his 15 minutes of fame, it means "I tell you the truth, my friend."  I think it could also mean "what a white 31 year old mother of 3 says when  she wants to pretend she's a rapper."  I am a wealth of important information today, aren't you glad you stopped.)

  1. "Cruisin'. In my 5.0. With my ragtop down so my hair can blow."

Are there any other lyrics more insightful than these? I think not.

  2. Well...I am not a pastor's wife...but I CAN sing all the words to "Ice Ice Baby" and love every minute of it! Not so sure about actually "rapping" it.

    Awesome Post!!!

  3. I totally didn't know you could search by year - my family thanks you for introducing me to yet another way to waste my time! :P

I used to own the Vanilla Ice audio tape. I never thought I would admit that, and yet here I am. Thank you for freeing me!

  4. i am laughing out loud... i'm there with you!!!

just over the weekend my 5 year old asked if i could rap... i totally shocked him! his face was priceless after i finished. he now knows he has one cool mama!!! ha ha

  5. I am a preachers wife and I have never commented on your page before but I couldn't help but laugh. I am so guilty to being able to rap ice ice baby lol

  6. It's sooo funny that you bring up Vanilla Ice...I was just reading this article this morning... http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/03/04/vanilla-ice-apologizes-to_n_171754.html

Yo man let's get out of here
    Word to your mother

  7. PS: I think a nice blog post would be to hear the top 25 songs on your ipod!

  8. Will it ever stop?
    Yo, I don't know
    Turn off the lights
    and I'll glow

Uh... yeah. I might not be a pastor's wife yet, but you better believe I got some Ice Ice Baby on the iPod (much to my husband's chagrin). I'm just glad to know I don't have to give up my boy Vanilla once my husband gets in the pulpit. :)

    Word to your mother indeed.

  9. somethin grabs a hold of me tightly then i flow like a harpoon daily and nightly

what the heck does that mean?!?!

  10. When I was a teenager, I worked in the mall and Vanilla Ice came into the mall one night. Everybody was CRAZY!!!

Sorry, I don't know all the words, but then I'm not much of a music person and I don't know all the words to many songs.

  11. I just watched that video and had Lily completely entertained by my rapping/dancing skills (if you can call them that :) (Give her about 12 more years and she will be less than amused :) Thanks for the flashback :)

P.S. I'm with Michelle -- I'd like to hear what other sorts of lyrical masterpieces you've got on your iPod :)

  12. How 'bout a little rap demo next time "I See What You're Saying" comes around, Yo! The Ice Man's got nothing on you, girl!

...By the way, just have to thank you that this song is now stuck in my head for the rest of the day!

  13. Yes, I have K-LOVE on, but the Ice, Ice Baby song is playing in my head!! The madness!! LOL

  14. All right stop, collaborate and listen...

someone's lying if they say they don't know at least one phrase from that song or at least the intro...bum bum bum bb bum bum (you know what I'm talking about!)

I'm with Tracy...once a song gets stuck it's there for the rest of the day!

  15. I'm a PW & HAD the CD, but w/ all the moving we have done it seems to have been misplaced, although that MIGHT be my hubby's fault, he also managed to lose "Phase-10", his most UN-favourite game!

  16. My husband LOVES Ice, Ice Baby. I lived much too sheltered a life and only know what I have learned from him... "Stop, Colaborate, and Listen." Is that the right song?

  17. Funny!

I just posted 10 songs from my iPod today. I have to say, I left out the embarrassing ones, though.

I'd be interested in seeing your list.

  18. I think we need a video of you rapping "Ice Ice Baby." ;)

  19. DUDE! Ice ice Baby!
Did you happen to see him on the bull riding show? Ok, maybe not. Happened while we were channel flipping. He was trying to teach the other guys it. HILARIOUS.
I too spend endless time buying 99 cent tunes. I love my ipod. I want an itouch now. since I opened my big mouth Hubby is all like Yeah, that's what we'll get for Christmas. Hold on there big fella, I'm not ready to plunk down $800 on tunage players.
    Me and my big mouth.
    Peace Out!

  20. You just crack me up. :) You're so fun and funny.

  21. I saw Vanilla Ice in concert back in the day!!!! LOVED him and yes, still "rappin'" to it.

  22. Oh yay! I love those songs. "I tell you the truth" - imagine a contemporary Bible, and Jesus saying "word to your mother." LOL! I'm just saying.

  23. Oh yay! I love those songs. "I tell you the truth" - imagine a contemporary Bible, and Jesus saying "word to your mother." LOL! I'm just saying.

  24. I'm glad you like it. Now just you wait, the podcasts are even MORE addicting.

  25. Oooh, now I want one. :) Ice, Ice Baby...BOY, THAT's a throw back to Jr. High...I miss being 13 and awkward. :) Hah! ...and if I HAD an Ipod, I might consider spending $.99 on a little Ice. Coming from a Missionary, does that make you feel better?

  26. to the extreme, I rock the mic like a vandal.....

I downloaded this and lots of other great songs the other night, like MC Hammer, Pat Benatar and Joan Jett!

My kids couldn't believe that I could sing the words to these songs!

    And yes, I a pastor's wife!

  27. No Vanilla Ice, but some Blondie, Pat Benatar, and Guns 'n Roses (and actually Toni Basil's "Oh, Mickey"). Shhhh ... don't tell. (and don't forget some Rick Springfield - "Jessie's Girl")

  28. Would you believe that I saw Vanilla Ice in concert when I was in junior high? Because I totally did! And I knew every word of Ice, Ice Baby, but fortunately I have forgotten most of them!

You can search years in iTunes? I had no idea I had wasted so much time searching for my favorites from 1994! I'm going to try that now!

  29. OH GIRL I have it, too. Not a preacher's wife, but a deacon's daughter. Will that do?

  30. I remember being at PRE-SCHOOL...literally...and rapping it at play time with my friends. WOW.

  31. I think you should definitely rap this song for us on your next "I See What You're Saying" video post!!! I bet you can rock the mike like a vandal.

Oh, and on a side note, I guess this means I can also tell you now that your style's like a chemical spiiiillll, and you'll totally know it's a compliment!!!

  32. hee hee! just laughing my rear end off at your post title...

    off to read the rest.

  33. Ok - so I'm a music schizo myself... I'm usually not a huge rap fan b/c of the lyrics. I DO however, love some old school rap.

    Rapper's Delight?
    Shut IT
    Beastie Boys?
    Stop it NOW
    Run DMC?
    Killin' me

If you get a chance, listen to LaCrae. He's a Christian rap artist. My favorite is Jesus Music on the After the Music Stops.
He's awesome. His lyrics will make you want to be a better Christian. And dance like a crazy white girl. In a mini-van.

I wonder if white, 32 year old mommy is his "target audience"? hmmmm....

  34. That's awesome! I had never seen the video, but watching it made me realize how many words I thought were right - were totally not even close. Terrible rapper here, I guess....but I bet I'm pretty good entertainment when I try.

  35. Love my ipod too and my music like yours is all over the place....just like me!

  36. ha! i have a couple of old skool songs on my playlist! love it....the girls think i'm weird. oh, well!

  37. I want to see you dance to MC Hammer :) {Hamma' Time}

  38. he doesn't have a church.. but it's josh's ring tone :)

  39. Since you know my mom, you'll get a kick out of this. She used to rap (when I was in high school so not all that long ago). She'd do this in front of our friends. I can't remember how it got started but we called her "jiggity jean".

  40. I just fell even more in love with YOU. Stop collaborate and listen ice is back with a brand new invention somethin grabs a hold of me tightly flows like a harpoon daily and nightly...:)

A few friends of mine and I can be heard saying "word to your mother" all the time. We're really really hip.

  41. I'm a 35 year old mother of 2 teen girls and a funeral director and I live in ARKANSAS.

I bet no one would believe that I have mchammers Can't touch this on my hand-me-down-from-teenager-Ipod SHUFFLE.

We should all list our top 10 or so Ipod tunes.

  42. I am not a pastor's wife, but I am definitely an 80s girl!
My hairdresser even says that when I tell her I want more poof to my hair!
