I've Found Another...

Dear Scrap booking,

For years I watched people become enamored with your little craft. I swore to myself I'd never be taken in by you. Too much work...not enough time.

Four years ago, upon my move to tiny town, somehow my defenses were down and I gave in.

Everyone was doing it.

And I loved it. And in true Sarah form, I went full-boar. Eight of these babies I finished in about 2 1/2 years.
(Blogger is being totally disobediant about turning this picture)

I've known this was coming though. I've lost that loving feeling. I tried to rekindle it...I did. But it's gone. Long gone. Scrap booking, you've been replaced with a new, faster and cheaper method...called Shutterfly.

Oh, don't worry, we'll have one last hurrah...there's one last book that's half-done...my obsessive personality can't allow that...it must be finished...in January at a special scrap booking retreat that I am still going to go to even if I quit scrapping because I love that retreat ;)

Back to my point. It was fun while it lasted. But all good things come to an end, eventually...it's not you, it's me...or something like that.

My Deepest Regards,

Sarah

  1. I wrote a very similar letter when I discovered digital scrapbooking (and we got reduced to seminary income AND MOVED AWAY FROM A HOBBY LOBBY *sob*). :) I still have some stuff under the bed - papers, stickers, etc. - that I just can't seem to part with. Maybe one day I'll be able to.

  2. I resisted scrapbooking - I could tell it was just a matter of time before it was another fad gone by the wayside.

    Darling letter!

  3. I have often threatened to stop scrapbooking, but my OCD/thrifty self won't permit me to stop until I've used up the materials I have. I will start off by "finishing up" a scrapbook, only to discover that I need one or two more pieces to finish a page. After all, I can't have the end look worse than the beginning! So I'll pick up a few pieces, which always somehow come with more pieces - and then I've finished a scrapbook yet again, with the same (or more) amount of supplies left!

  4. It is funny as you post about Shutterfly. As I am catching up on blogs I am uploading photos to Shutterfly. I have a few books to get caught up on. I have completed roughly 15 Shutterfly books and love them! I always had trouble getting into scrapbooking - I don't like stuff all over and that is what I got with scrapbooking.

Shutterfly is fast, clutter free and beautiful!

  6. I now feel less guilty for entertaining the same thoughts! I am going to still finish off the kids' scrapbooks that I started, but from now on, the rest are going digital. I made an album on Shutterfly for the mom I just finished babysitting for - she loved it and it was so much fun!

  7. 8(1/2)albums = impressive. Really. My albums stopped after my 2nd baby was born. So time consuming. I now have a table set up for nothing but scrapbooking, but it hasn't been used yet. THUS the blog... ;)

  8. I agree, my new found love has not been shutterfly but it's been mypublisher. I have put scrapbooking aside also but feel I'm doing just as well with my new friend.

  10. As a Mac user, and the laziest person that I have ever.met, I LOVE the option that iPhoto has of the photo books just like Shutterfly.
You could say its the cheaters way out, but for $40/book, I call it good stewardship :)

  11. Loved this post! I used to scrapbook loads but haven't done so in about 2 years, I think I have lost my scrapbooking mojo! Shutterfly sounds perfect! I am off to google it now to see if we have a Spanish version....:)

  13. I LOVE Shutterfly too!

There's something special about the old-fashioned way, but I AM NOT above these on-line options. And I use them :)

  14. I'm in about the same place. I loved it and I still want to do it, but just don't take the time. Maybe again soon. I don't intend to get rid of my stuff. So we'll see!
