The One I've Been Dreading...

I've been avoiding my blog so that I can avoid this post...because I don't really want to write about it. It's a bit of a sore subject. I'll summarize and then we can just move on without mentioning it again...sound good?

Let's Bullet it...

  • Trained all summer for a 1/2 mary.
  • 1/2 mary was last Saturday, Sept. 12th.
  • Paid $40 to register.
  • Friday before race begin really not feeling well.
  • Barfing is next...hello dehydration.
  • Realize I'm not going to be able to do the race.
  • Weeping and gnashing of teeth.
  • Drag myself to race to cheer on my running partner, Billie, who does great! So, so proud of her.
  • Pity party for myself continues...apparently I don't know when to leave a party.
  • Wrestle with God on the timing issue...begging Him for some wisdom.
  • Pity party over.
  • There will be other races.
  • The end.
No need to send condolences. Trust me when I tell you I've spent enough time feeling sorry for myself. Way more than enough.

The barfing happened for a reason...His timing is perfect...even when I don't understand it.

There...enough of that. Let's move on to some fun updates that I know you'll find interesting ;)

  • Tonight is our homecoming. Julie gets to be one of the honoraries on the homecoming court so Ben gets to walk her across the field. How cute is that? I will totally have pictures for you.
  • Julie's date for homecoming is also the homecoming king and one of our star football players. It may be just me, but I'm finding that as a parent of a teenager now, it doesn't matter how nice and wonderful the person they want to date seems, I still tend to view them as the enemy. *smile*
  • Happy Friday! WOO HOO!

  2. You're right--there will be other races!!
So exciting about Julie & the homecoming court! Totally get what you mean about viewing that "wonderful person" as an enemy...and then as a mom of only boys I remind myself...oh yeah, I live with 3 little future 'enemies' :) haha!
    Happy Weekend!

  4. Yes, there will be other races. In fact, I know of a great one on October 18th. I am going to cheer on a friend and I really think you should come run it too. It's not too late to sign up and you'd definitely be ready for it...no pressure. :)

  5. Just remember the old Lesley Gore song... "It's my party and I'll cry if I want to."

There's nothing wrong with being disappointed about how it all worked out. Hey, don't forget the fact that you RAN TEN MILES! That's something to be proud of. There will always be more races, you are right. Love you hun.

The teen years are interesting. You should be thanking God that He is giving you a sneak peek before your own boys get there. It's like a test run...

  7. You have to take LOTS of pictures and write about the homecoming. To me it sounds like Julie has been a part of an american girl-movie. xD

I'm dying to hear more about it!

PS: I ordered the tickets for the easter yesterday YEEEY! I'm so looking forward to it:D

  12. Happily, our exchange student is not allowed to date (our rules) until she is 16 - two days before she goes home :} You are right! They are the enemy and thus the reason we have a shotgun by the front door ;}

    Congrats to Julie!!

  15. Fine! I won't say anything ;P
    Cause you said NOT to.
I look forward to your next race. Can I say that??
I am also looking forward to homecoming pictures! SA-WEET!
I had to laugh about how you feel about Julie's "date" I felt the SAME way when my little "sister" went to prom and then again when she got married this last summer.

  16. I think you should go to the race that someone invited you to go to. We had our 5K Run/Walk tonight. I walked as I could not do the running that I wanted to do. My friend from church and I came in last. We both got medals due to our age. Paula is 59 and I am 72. Our church got a trophy for having the largest team there. Lots of them received medals and some of our AWANA kids got medals too. It was a fun time.

  17. I understand your disappointment, but let's keep it in perspective. It was a stupid race. (OK. Maybe not stupid, but you get the drift.) You didn't miss your son's wedding or graduation. You did lots of HEALTHY training. All your effort came with the perks of getting yourself in shape. It is the journey, not the destination!

(Post those pics of Julie and Homecoming! And...keep in mind that someone is going to be having these exact same thoughts about your darling sons someday. I'm a mother of daughters. I know these things!)

  18. While I am not talking about it, I just wanted to say...I shed a tear on your behalf. :(

Hope you are back to good health and that Homecoming was a great experience for the whole family!

I look forward to each post of yours, thanks for your honesty.

  21. Maybe it wasn't about the race at all and it was about the disipline and commitment God was trying to teach you. It hurts sometimes when God doesn't make sense and you have to endure things that we don't always have solid answers for. I am proud of your commitment to what you felt God asked you to do. It's the obedience that you were succcessful at not the race!
