Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds

Turns out I had never heard the song Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds until friends mentioned it after her birth. I obviously live under a rock.

Word on the street (ie Google) says the song was written while on LSD. After listening to the song, I'm not gonna argue with that. The verses in the song are bizarre...although I do like the yellow and green cellophane flowers and something about marshmallow pie...but the refrain...oh the refrain. I can't stop singing it to her. I added three different versions of it to my ipod. Elton John, Elton Jon & John Lennon, and a Bono version.

Jake (4 years old) has been making pictures of Lucy. He brought me this one the other day and I had to smile. Like the song says...the girl with kaleidoscope eyes. *smile*

  1. Ok......this Beatles fan is a little in shock that you had never heard that song. =)
Also - if you've never seen the movie "I am Sam" it is a great movie and the little girl's name is Lucy after that song. Great movie -- tear jerker for sure so you might wait til the hormones calm down some. =)
Hope everything is going well with a new little one around. Adding #4 in some ways was a lot easier b/c the girls were older but in some ways rocked my world since I went right back into diapers and no sleep. As well as the whole nursing things again!

  4. Such a cute picture :) I love the eyelashes!

I was told that the song was written about a picture that one of the Beatles sons drew about a classmate named Lucy. Who knows!

  9. I'm a little in shock, too!

It's one of the songs the kiddos love to sing on our Beatles Rock Band. I adore the name Lucy. It's so cute.

It's a good thing you didn't name her Walrus, if you think "Lucy" is a weird song....

  14. That picture is the greatest. I love it!! I do find it amusing that you've never heard that song before. But now you've got another cute story to tell. :-) Oh, I think quite a few Beatles songs were written under the influence of LSD. Have you heard "Yellow Submarine" ?

  16. I love this. What awesome lyrics you can make up about this beautiful baby girl. Love it.

Beau and I have made up songs for each of our girls and when I say "made up" I mean wrote different lyrics to popular songs that their name might fit in.

  17. :) Looks like you have an artist on your hands! :) I think it's sweet that you're loving this song and singing it to her! :) It was a favorite of mine and my sisters as kids (my mom was/is a huge Beatles fan)...it wasn't until high school I heard the (L)ucy in the (S)ky with (D)iamonds meaning...and I prbly had to ask what LSD was! :) Ha!
