Fashion is Tricky...

So...it's election day. I feel strongly...but don't really feel like getting into it. I will say, that for those that haven't read through the book of Revelation in the Bible...should do so...I'm just sayin' :)

Anyways, after voting today I get to go get my hair cut...how great is that?!? Just a trim...nothing too exciting.

I mentioned yesterday about the outfit I got at Target that may or may not be too young for me. But seriously, either way, it is so dang comfortable that I don't even CARE! Welcome back 1980, welcome. back.

Ya know what? Being 30 is tricky. Tricky, tricky, tricky. No longer able to pull off all the trends, but not quite ready for the snowman sweater either(mom, I know you love a snowman sweater, so I won't even go there.)

If you'd asked me a year or two ago I would have told you there were a few trends that were up and coming that I surely WOULD NOT do.

  1. ankle boots
  2. leggings
  3. skinny jeans
  4. skinny jeans tucked in boots
  5. heavy bangs

Funny. Because this year I've done all but #1...and that's only because I cannot buy another pair of boots BUT ankle boots have now made it from my "never gonna happen" list to my "so cute" list.

You know what else is funny? Me in #2-#4 in tiny-town. *smiles* I like trying new stuff. It's fun. Keeps it interesting. But I love the classics too...like big rubber boots...

Ok, your turn. Spill it. What are you wearing now that you swore you'd never wear?

Imaginary Shopping

OK, so there's a little Internet past-time that I love.

I like to call it...imaginary shopping.

Here's what you do.

Go to your favorite website. It can be clothing or home furnishings or whatever would be fun to purchase but you totally can't afford.

Key word: WOULD be fun to purchase.

My personal favorites are here and here and here.

After getting to your favorite site, the fun begins. You simply shop. Put outfits together, plan a room, dream away. No need to look at prices either...fabulous, no?

Each time you just click "Add to shopping bag/cart"

When finished, you get to look at all your "purchases" and admire what a great shopper you are. Then...

you leave. Do not proceed to the "checkout" button. THAT button must be avoided at all costs. Do not checkout. It's not part of the game.

I will not be held personally responsible if you, lets say, CHEAT and purchase something.

See! No money spent...and placing those finds in your imaginary shopping bag feels, if just for a moment, like they were yours.

I know what you're thinking..."it's just not the same"...I know, I know. BUT, it is really helpful in figuring out what you really truly like...what your style is. So maybe, just maybe, when you find a cheap inexpesive knockoff somewhere, you'll totally know what to do with it ;)

Now...go enjoy... *smiles*

Seriously...how weird am I that I really think this is fun!?! :) Weird-O

Thus Far...

My day thus far...(so KJV of me ;)
  1. First day of school for first grader and kindergartner. Up and at 'em at 7AM with a breakfast of champions... bacon and toaster strudel. De-lish.

  2. Take "first day of school pictures", take to school, take more pictures, finally leave school.

  3. No crying...by anyone. Phew. It'll take a little while for reality to set in for me...in a week or 2 I'm sure I'll have a sobbish type post for you.

  4. Went to grocery store with JUST 3 year old.

  5. Came home and made 2nd pot of coffee at 10:05. Don't judge...it's a big day.

There. If all else fails and I can't think of anything to blog about I can bore you with my day's schedule. Aren't I lovely.

Oh wait. I do have something I was going to share. I've been working on cleaning closets for what seems like weeks. This weekend I tackled mine. I decided to buy a thingy to hang my necklaces on so I could see them better (in hopes of actually wearing them more frequently)

The finished product:

Notice a theme? It's called PLASTIC. I have a fondness for plastic jewelry. I can't help myself. I'm just classy like that ;)

Highlights:Not the Hair Kind...

As you know, I'm still (technically) on a little bloggy break...largely due to my extensive Olympic coverage watching :) And team USA...definitely making it worth it!

But I can't stay away totally, and risk losing all five readers.

Here's some old and new news from my neck of the woods...

  • Tate is doing much better! Many thanks for all your prayers and encourageing words. He came home on Saturday and they believe he has ITP (which I don't fully understand) but it's MUCH better than anything else it could have been.

  • Saturday we went to the zoo. Out of all the exotic animals...we have a favorite. It is not exotic...more like disgusting. It's the grossness factor that just keeps us coming back. I of course, took a picture for you.

When you throw food in...they do this. It gives me the heebie-jeebies...and yet I couldn't stop watching...

  • Sunday I wore these to church: LEGGINGS! They've been sitting in my dresser drawer for months...it just never felt right...until yesterday. And guess what?!? SO COMFORTABLE!! I may wear them everyday ;)

Here's the top of my (Wal-Mart) dress...I couldn't photograph my entire self in one-shot...I'm just not that good.

  • Sunday night we spent the evening enjoying the Olympics while the boys "practiced" their Olympic moves.

The best was while watching the Women's Gymnastics...My 3 year kept saying..

"Mom, you could do that!"

Me: "no, that takes lots of practice"

Jake: "But you could..."

God bless him...he has no idea that his mommy can't even bend over and touch her toes...dang flexibility.

Happy Monday bloggy friends! And Happy Olympic watching!!

It's Like Hunting...

Where I live there are four seasons. During the long, LONG frigid winter, if you asked me my fav season, I would tell you spring. By the end of the hot, humid, mosquito infested summer, if you ask me, I will tell you fall. I think my love for the two is because they are both so fleeting. Once you realized they're finally here, they're gone.

I have never lived anywhere that does not have distinct season changes. I can't imagine life without the weather changing...drastically. My frame of reference revolves around the seasons. Which is part of the reason fall fashion is just so much fun! I enjoy it like a hobby...much like a man enjoys golf or fishing or hunting...it's kinda like hunting...except when I find the perfect shoe, I do not kill it.

Can I call myself an expert after reading just one magazine?!? Ummm...on my own blog...I think I can. Plus, my sharing of the in-depth knowledge I now posses from the study of this one magazine may save you $3.99...which could instead be used at Starbucks or something. Excellent.

Apparently the key to trends is to only pick the ones that work for you. And, there are certain things (like dark denim and patent leather ;) that are just classic and do not go in or out. The words in orange are just my humble *cough* opinion.

Here goes. In Bullet list form, naturally.

What's In for this fall: (according to my magazine)
  • Ruffled and fitted jackets love
  • Puffy sleeves cute
  • A-line skirts cute
  • Wide-leg trousers so cute with heels
  • Dark prints undecided
  • Lady-like trend of fitted (or belted) dresses, pencil skirts and ruffles YAY!
  • Layered looks perfect
  • Pleated cropped pants no thanks
  • Skinny belt (over shirts) maybe
  • Funnel-neck tops sure
  • Dark plaids sure
  • menswear flat-front trousers sure
  • High-waisted skirts and pants this ones still new to me...adjusting
  • Short shift dresses I do think these are cute with leggings
  • Spectator heels (both in peep toe and with mary-jane straps) LOVE
  • Drawstring bags (leather) not bad
  • Peep-toe ankle booties ankle booties are growing on me...but the peep toe with them?
  • In denim: distressed and hardware ok...still like the dark best
  • Fringe (leather) I can't do this one...I'm not a fringe girl.
  • Flat shoulder bags LOVE
  • Purple one of my new favorites!

Well ladies, that's all I know for now. What I like about most of these trends is that they're not so "out-there." Much of that stuff I already have from past years ...woo hoo!

Now that I've bombarded you with my opinion, let me have yours!! What do you LOVE?

Not Gonna Do It....

I woke up this morning and told myself (and my husband) that I would not be doing a post today....taking the day off.

And here I sit...writing a post.

I have been cleaning (like a mad-woman) all day. My adorable little niece, Maddy, is coming tomorrow and staying till Thursday.
Here she is:

OK, back to the story. I've been crawling around on my floors trying to pick up all the legos/marbles/junk. If ya'll could start praying now, that she doesn't find something to choke on at my house, it would be much appreciated.

On another note: We had a super fun time yesterday...pics for you below. After fishing in the morning we headed into the nearest town to eat, and low and behold I found THE cutest little shop (where I purchased an adorable dress and shirt for cheap!) If I had the money/time I'd open up one identical to it! I took pictures, because I just knew I'd need to share it with you. I did not take pics in the inside...I didn't want the owner to think I was a total wacko...just a little wacko ;)

First: The cute clothes from the cute shop...

And the other fun stuff...

Happy Saturday!

oh...one more thing...I have lots of fall fashion wisdom now...I fill you in this week :)

I'm an Expert Now...

I can't come up with anything interesting to post about today!

Which means you get my schedule for the day...I know, I know...so exciting.
  • Hubby has the day off so were heading out fishing with the boys. What?!?! You didn't know I fish? Well, I don't really...but I watch....sort of.
  • I got myself some easy reading material to take along.

By this evening, I should be an expert on the fall trends...you know, what's coming in and going out...which ones I agree with and which ones I'll chalk up to "are you kidding me?!?"

Feel free to ask me your burning fall fashion questions...because after all, I am an expert...I read the magazine. ;)

Happy Friday Bloggy Friends!!
